The purpose of the educator training program is to provide the educators with additional resources and skills based on experiential learning to create optimal participation and a positive learning experience for the child. A learner will become a part of the learning experience and not just merely a spectator. This educator training is an intervention programme aimed at assisting the Department of Education in equipping and empowering educators with teaching methodologies and resources to help learners make life changing decisions and understand the consequences of their choices. The primary objective is to bring about positive change in children and further their development of pro-social actions that benefit another person without an expected reward for self. Educators play an influencer role in the life of children as they spend most of the time with the children in schools. Educators are trained on how to facilitate the following topics to the learners;
- Abuse
- HIV and AIDS
- Sex and Sexuality
- Abstinence
- Values and Morals
Programme Objectives:
Increase academic performance of learners in Life Orientation by providing learners with appropriate CAPS support material.Reduce behaviour problems by promoting sound moral values and good choices.To educate learners about the dangers of HIV infection and STI’s.To promote peer education.To provide SAQA accredited and non-accredited training to educators.Research to establish measurable outcomes and effective implementation in the classroom.To build the capacity of Educators through various programs as jointly agreed upon by EOHA and the GDE.We aim at maintaining high levels of moral values aligned with existing policies to empower learners, families and educators to exercise their constitutional rights and responsibilities in order to create a better South Africa.
